George Clooney opened his time on the Golden Globes stage with a nod to his new French citizenship after President Donald Trump criticized the move in a recent social media post.
“Bonsoir, mes amis,” the A-lister, who was presenting Best Motion Picture — Drama during the Sunday, January 11 ceremony, began. (That translates to, “Good evening, my friends.”)
“C’est un honneur d’être ici,” the 64-year-old added, meaning, “It’s an honor to be here.”

The star then threw in a cheeky “you see?” to the crowd to prove he deserves French citizenship, which he and his wife, Amal, 47, recently obtained.
The president had sarcastically celebrated George and Amal’s decision to move in a post on Truth Social.
“Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump wrote in the December 31 post.

“Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies,” the president, 79, added. “He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
George, who has been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration, responded with a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on New Year’s Day that read: “I totally agree with the current president. We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November.”
