Meghan McCain is not buying reports that Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell is on the mend weeks after suffering a medical emergency.
The former The View host, 41, is demanding that McConnell’s team provide proof of life for the 84-year-old who remains hospitalized.
“Senator McConnell’s staff owes it to the American public to give a real update on his health or show us some kind of proof of life,” McCain shared via X on Tuesday, July 7. “All of this is unseemly, macabre, bad for democracy and quite frankly embarrassing for the country.”
A spokesperson for the elderly senator previously claimed he is “still working closely” on political issues “as he continues to recover,” in a statement to People.
Earlier this week, former aide to the senator Scott Jennings claimed to have had a 20-minute phone call directly with McConnell from his hospital bed. However, after being asked to call him during a live interview with CNN, Jennings dodged the request.
“I wasn’t really expecting him to call this morning to be honest,” Jennings, 48, said. “So when the phone rang, and I was able to talk to him, I was frankly pretty grateful.”

McCain is not the only one not buying what McConnell’s team is selling.
The governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear, released a letter sent to McConnell’s office on Wednesday, July 8 per Fox News, claiming, “Kentuckians have grown increasingly concerned about the current state of your health and wellbeing, and ability to hold office in the United States Senate.”
Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna is also unconvinced as she took to TikTok Tuesday night to say, “Mitch McConnell is dead. He’s dead. They’re keeping him alive like Weekend at Bernie’s.”
McConnell has been hospitalized since June 14 after being found unconscious in his Washington D.C. home, according to a 911 call obtained by TMZ.
