Corey Feldman is reportedly causing a stir before the 98th Academy Awards have even begun.

As the team behind this year’s Oscars prepare for the Sunday, March 15, ceremony, a Daily Mail report claims that a tribute to Hollywood director Rob Reiner is underway — and that Feldman, who starred in his 1986 film Stand by Me, will not be included.

A source claimed to the outlet in an article published Thursday, March 5, that When Harry Met Sally… stars Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal are being asked to participate, as well as Jerry O’Connell and Wil Wheaton from Stand by Me.

“One person currently left off is Corey Feldman, and Corey is devastated that he hasn’t been asked to be a part of the tribute,” the source claimed. “He loved Rob and expected to be asked, especially since Jerry and Wil were asked.”

The source noted that the trio of Stand by Me stars have dates lined up for a 40th anniversary tour (which kicks off March 13 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), making Feldman’s alleged omission especially “heartbreaking.”

“The night should be about Rob and honoring him and Corey wants nothing more than to honor Rob, and the fact that he currently isn’t allowed is an absolute slap in the face,” the source said. “Even if he wasn’t on the stage, he’d love to be there, to honor Rob.”

According to the Mail’s source, the Stand by Me actors have “reached out to the Academy for some answers,” but they have “been met with silence.”

Reiner was known for his acclaimed directorial work in Hollywood, particularly on When Harry Met Sally…, where he met his future wife, Michele Singer Reiner.

The two were tragically murdered on December 14, when they were found in their California home with fatal stab wounds. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, has been charged in connection to their deaths.

Prior to their killings, the Reiners reportedly attended a holiday party at the home of Conan O’Brien, and it is believed Rob engaged in an argument with his son.

After the Reiners were found dead in their home, Nick — who has a history of mental illness and substance abuse — was located and arrested by police hours later at approximately 9:15 p.m.

He was initially represented by high-profile attorney Alan Jackson, but during a January 7 court appearance, Jackson withdrew from the case. Nick was then appointed a public defender, who pleaded not guilty on his behalf on February 23.

Jackson reiterated his belief in his former client’s innocence. “What we’ve learned and you can take this to the bank, is that pursuant to the laws of this state, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder,” he said in January. “Print that. We wish him the very very best moving forward.”
