Conan O’Brien, who hosted late friends Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner the evening before their tragic murders in December, is addressing the headlines surrounding his holiday party.

In an interview published on Monday, March 9, in The Hollywood Reporter, the 62-year-old comedian said that he thought it would be disrespectful of him to bring it up on his podcast.

However, when he was asked about the tragedy in the recent interview — a question the publication said he expected — he replied, “Very simply, we had a party, we invited our really good friends and then, the next day, this terrible thing happened.”

Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were tragically murdered on December 14, when they were found in their California home with fatal stab wounds. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, has been charged in connection to their deaths.

Prior to their killings, the Reiners reportedly attended O’Brien’s holiday party, and it is believed Rob engaged in an argument with his son.

“Whatever difficulties my wife and I have experienced having our name attached to it are nothing compared to the scale of the tragedy for the family and the loss of Rob and Michele,” he told THR. “If you’re a known person, your name is going to get dragged into things sometimes, but it is not a hardship. There is only sadness that they’re gone.”

The former late-night host previously addressed the Reiners’ deaths in a February interview with The New Yorker.

“I knew Rob and Michele, and then increasingly got closer and closer to them, and I was seeing them a lot,” he told the publication. “My wife and I were seeing them a lot, and they were so — they were just such lovely people.”

“And to have that experience of saying good night to somebody and having them leave and then find out the next day that they’re gone. . . . I think I was in shock for quite a while afterward,” he admitted. “I mean, there’s no other word for it. It’s just very — it’s so awful. It’s just so awful.”

After the Reiners were found dead in their home, Nick was located and arrested by police hours later at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Nick has pleaded not guilty.
