Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s children Jake and Romy Reiner have broken their silence following their parents’ death. Their brother, Nick Reiner, is charged in their murder.
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, said in a statement to People on Wednesday, December 17.
“The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends,” the statement continued.
“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life,” they said. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Jake and Romy broke their silence the same day their 32-year-old brother Nick appeared in court for the first time — wearing shackles and seated behind glass.
His high-profile attorney, Alan Jackson — who represented Karen Read in her murder trial as well as A-listers like Kevin Spacey — reportedly declined to enter a plea on behalf of Nick. The arraignment will continue on January 7.
As previously reported, Nick has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders and a special allegation that he used a knife.
The charges, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty if convicted. No decision has currently been made with respect to the death penalty.

The famed director, 78, and his wife, 70, were discovered dead in their home on Sunday, December 14. It is understood that their daughter Romy found them. The National Enquirer reported that the Reiners had a guest staying at their home who left just prior to the heinous crime “because of how insane [Nick] was acting,” according to a source.
Nick was located and arrested on Sunday at approximately 9:15 p.m. local time, according to the LAPD. He was found near the University of Southern California campus.
Rob and Michele met working together on When Harry Met Sally… before they tied the knot in 1989.
