Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s son Nick Reiner will officially be charged in his parents’ murder.
At a press conference held Tuesday, December 16, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that his office will be filing charges against the 32-year-old after Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were found dead in their Brentwood home on Sunday, December 14.
Nick will be charged with “two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders,” said Hochman.

“He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife,” said Hochman. “These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.”
Hochman noted, “No decision at this point has been made with respect to the death penalty.”
Currently, Hochman added, Nick is being held without bail.
The homicide was reported the day after Rob and Michele attended Conan O’Brien’s holiday party on Saturday night with son Nick. While there, Rob and Nick reportedly got into a heated argument, and other people in attendance heard the commotion.

According to NBC News, Nick allegedly interrupted a conversation between actor Bill Hader and another guest at the party. When the Saturday Night Live alum, 47, told Nick the conversation was private, Nick stood and stared at them before “storming off,” a source claimed.
Nick then checked into The Pierside Santa Monica hotel around 4 a.m. Sunday, per TMZ. According to sources with direct knowledge, when staff entered the room later Sunday morning, they found the shower “full of blood” and blood on the bed.
The late couple’s youngest child, 28-year-old daughter Romy, reportedly found them, and paramedics rushed to the Reiners’ Brentwood home around 3:30 p.m. local time, according to People.
Nick was located and arrested later that night at approximately 9:15 p.m., according to the LAPD. He was found near the University of Southern California campus.

On Tuesday, Nick was scheduled to make his first court appearance. However, his defense attorney Alan Jackson told reporters he was not “medically cleared” to do so.
Rob and Michele — who met while working together on When Harry Met Sally… before they tied the knot in 1989 — also share 34-year-old son Jake.
The National Enquirer reported that the Reiners had a guest staying at their home who left just prior to the heinous crime “because of how insane [Nick] was acting,” according to a source.
