Nick Reiner, who is being held without bail in connection to the murder of his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, did not appear in court on Tuesday, December 16.

The 32-year-old’s defense attorney Alan Jackson — who represented Karen Read in her murder trial — told reporters outside of court (via video footage shared by TMZ) that every inmate has to be “medically cleared before they can be transported to court.”

Nick “has not been medically cleared,” he said, adding that it’s just a “procedural issue.” Jackson said that Nick is currently being held at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.

“Hopefully he’ll be cleared tomorrow,” Jackson said, though he would not speak further about his client.

According to TMZ, prosecutors were expected to decide whether and how to officially charge Nick in connection to his parents’ deaths.

On Monday, December 15, detectives from the LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division announced the arrest of Nick, who they said is “responsible for their deaths.”

Nick was located at approximately 9:15 p.m. local time. He was “booked for murder and remains in custody with no bail,” according to the LAPD release.

TMZ first reported that Rob, 78, and Nick got into a “very loud argument” at Conan O’Brien’s holiday party on Saturday, December 13. Other people in attendance were reportedly able to hear the heated exchange, and Rob and Michele, 70, left.

It is unclear as to when Nick left.

The following day, the famed Hollywood director and his wife were found dead with their throats reportedly slit.

Rob and Michele — who met working together on When Harry Met Sally… before they tied the knot in 1989 — also share 34-year-old son Jake and 28-year-old daughter Romy.

It’s been widely reported that Romy found her parents dead in their home.

The National Enquirer reported that the Reiners had a guest staying at their home who left just prior to the heinous crime “because of how insane [Nick] was acting,” according to a source.
