President Trump Doubles Down on Proposed Deal With Iran, Fights Back With Amended Peace Plan
President Donald Trump is doubling down on his proposed deal with Iran, firing back with an amended peace plan that contains tougher language for Tehran’s nuclear plans and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, reports say.
As the National Enquirer went to press, administration officials were awaiting Iran’s response to a revised U.S. proposal aimed at ending the more than three-month-old conflict, which has disrupted energy markets and sent gasoline prices soaring.
Thirteen U.S. service members have been reported killed. Casualty estimates from Iran and Lebanon vary, with some officials placing the total in the thousands.
The amended peace proposal, according to reports, includes detailed provisions governing how and when Iran would dispose of or transfer its roughly 1,000 pounds of highly enriched uranium. Nuclear experts say that stockpile, if further enriched to weapons-grade levels, could be sufficient for about 10 nuclear weapons.
While the proposal’s full terms were not publicly available, reports indicated it included a requirement that Iran allow the Strait of Hormuz to remain open to international shipping. Roughly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil trade and a significant share of global liquefied natural gas exports pass through the waterway.
Iran’s move to restrict traffic through the strait on April 18 rattled global markets, and reports say Tehran is considering future shipping fees that could reach $2 million per vessel, according to The New York Post.
A political insider tells the Enquirer the administration’s strategy to ratchet up pressure on Iran and its new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is pure Trump because, as always, he wants the best possible deal.
“The idea is to make conditions so intolerable that they concede to his demands,” says a source. “That’s why we attacked Iran in the first place — since it wasn’t as if they were going to hand over their nuclear material without a darn good reason.”
