Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport’s $300K Bathroom Project Includes Islamic Foot-Washing Stations

Travelers passing through Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will soon see new additions to two of its bathrooms.

According to Fox News, which published the details Wednesday, August 12, the airport is installing Islamic foot wash stations inside restrooms in Terminal D, with one station going into the men’s restroom and one into the women’s restroom.

Per the outlet, private funding will cover the project’s estimated $300,000 price tag. It was registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on July 31. Project documents describe the work as “adding Ablution stations to existing concourse level restrooms in Terminal D, one Men’s ablution station in existing men’s restroom and one Women’s ablution station in the existing women’s restroom.”

The Wudu Ablution stations are dedicated facilities for ritual washing before Muslim prayers and are slated for completion by the end of the year.

Airport officials say the dedicated basins are intended to accommodate foot washing while reducing wet floors and damage to standard restroom sinks and counters, per the report. Other U.S. airports, including Chicago O’Hare, Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Indianapolis International Airport, already offer similar facilities.

Conservative activist Ryan Fournier, 30, weighed in on the project, per the report. In Fournier’s view, the basins offered a straightforward way to prevent wet floors and keep airport bathrooms cleaner.

“People are freaking out over foot-washing stations at DFW, but let’s look at the actual facts before jumping to conclusions. This isn’t about pushing an ideology — it’s basic airport management,” Fournier wrote, per Fox News.

He continued, “Safety & Plumbing: People washing their feet in standard bathroom sinks creates soaked, slippery floors and breaks the counters. Low-level wudu basins keep the restrooms dry and safe for everyone.”
