Fire officials in Pennsylvania say a dog rescued from a residential fire on Tuesday actually started the blaze when it tried to reach food on top of the stove and accidentally turned on a burner.
The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire said crews responded to a one-alarm structure fire on the 100 block of Conover Road in the Point Breeze neighborhood at around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters rescued a dog from the home, and the animal was transported to an emergency veterinary clinic to be treated for smoke inhalation. No one else was inside at the time.
The fire was extinguished, and officials said the kitchen sustained significant damage, while other areas of the home were “affected by heat and smoke.”
Fire investigators determined the blaze began when the dog tried to reach food on the stovetop and accidentally turned on a burner.
