“Adam, go [expletive] yourself,” Griffin, 65, said in the video shared via YouTube on Tuesday, June 9. “Adam and I have been friends for decades. I absolutely love him. So, he came after me, and I know I should be really mad and give him a smackdown, but I’m just so used to this now.”
Griffin was responding after the right-leaning podcaster, 62, slammed her as “red-haired and pasty” following her interview with Bass.
“Kathy Griffin talking to Karen Bass about being a Black woman or whatever,” he said. “It’s like, I tweeted back that L.A. had a black mayor in 1973—73, you idiot.”

He continued, “So, get the [expletive] over it. Just get over it, red-haired, pasty Kathy Griffin, with light-skinned, red-haired Karen Bass. Just get the [expletive] over it. We had a [Black] mayor 50 years ago. More than 50 years ago.”
While many called Carolla “hateful and ignorant” for his remarks, Griffin took the opportunity to educate him.
“If he was trying to make the point that as a Caucasian woman, why am I bringing up that Mayor Bass is a woman of color?” she responded in her Tuesday video. “Because it’s not something the Mayor Bass herself could be saying every two seconds. And I think being an ally means that you can say that to her and she doesn’t have to carry the weight of running around being accused by people like Adam of saying, ‘I should be the mayor because I’m Black.'”
