Nick Reiner Has Not Been Cut Off Financially by Siblings Ahead of Trial for Parents’ Murders

Nick Reiner has asked to use a trust fund left to him by his late parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, for his murder trial. Despite the charges against him, Nick’s siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, are not against him receiving the money.

“What’s remarkable is that Jake and Romy still don’t appear to oppose Nick using family money to defend himself,” a source told Rob Shuter for his Naughty but Nice Substack on Wednesday, June 10. “Whatever they may think about the allegations, they believe he deserves a fair fight in court.”

However, the decision is not Jake or Romy’s to make.

“The trustee and the siblings are not on the same page. Jake and Romy seem willing to see trust funds used for legal fees. The trustee has taken a much harder line,” a separate source told Shuter. “Nick’s biggest obstacle isn’t his family. The resistance is coming from the trustee.”

Nick, 32, is accused of stabbing the A Few Good Men director, 78, and wife Michele, 70, to death inside their Brentwood, California, home on December 14, 2025. He was arrested later that evening and has remained behind bars in the months since.

He pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in February.

According to a recent court filing, Nick’s first attorney, Alan Jackson, walked away from the case because there was no money for his fee, Deadline reported.

“He wants access to the money so he can hire the lawyer of his choice,” Shuter reported, adding that Jackson has indicated he would return if the funds became available. “And based on the filings, his brother and sister don’t appear to be standing in the way.”

For his part, Jake, 35, opened up about the loss of his parents in a Substack essay published in April.

“We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable. Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it,” he wrote. “It’s almost too impossible to process. I understand that people have questions about what happened. Some of those answers will come in time. But some parts of this belong only to our family, and keeping them private is the only way to protect what little remains of something that was taken from us.”
