Scott Adams, creator of the comic strip Dilbert, has died at 68.
His ex-wife, Shelly Miles, announced the news and read a letter from Adams on a Tuesday, January 13 episode of his Real Coffee with Scott Adams livestream.
“If you are reading this, things did not go well for me. I have a few things to say before I go. My body fell before my brain. I am of sound mind as I write this January 1, 2026,” wrote Adams, who created the popular comic strip satirizing office life in 1989.

In 2023, the comic was pulled from widestream newspaper circulation after he made a rant that was construed by many as racist, in which he urged White people to “get the hell away” from Black people.
Last May, the cartoonist, who was born and raised in New York but lived much of his life in the San Francisco area, revealed on his podcast that he had prostate cancer that spread to his bones.
“I had an amazing life,” he wrote in his letter. “I gave it everything I had. If I got any benefits from my work, I’m asking that you pay it forward as best as you can. That’s the legacy I want. Be useful. And please know I loved you all to the very end.”
