Cher‘s effort to gain financial oversight of her son, Elijah Blue Allman, remains in limbo as his ongoing stay in a locked psychiatric facility continues to complicate the ongoing legal proceedings.
Rolling Stone reported on Thursday, June 25, that Allman, 49, appeared by video during a court hearing on Thursday from a psychiatric hospital in New Hampshire, where he has been receiving treatment following two arrests in the state earlier this year.
The hearing has now been pushed to September 1 after Allman said he wanted to represent himself, a request Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui denied.
The judge also raised doubt about whether the California court even has jurisdiction.

“I understand that he may be held in New Hampshire up to a year and a half,” she said, noting Allman has expressed no intention of returning to California.
Cher’s attorney, Justin Gold, argued that Los Angeles County remains the right venue, saying Allman’s stated preference was made while he was hospitalized and lacked capacity.
As per the report, the judge asked Gold to file a brief on the issue of jurisdiction by July 16.
Cher first sought a conservatorship in 2023 before the two reached a private settlement in 2024, according to the BBC.

The music icon revived the petition this year, calling her son’s situation “dire” after his arrests on charges including burglary, simple assault, and criminal trespass.
People reported in April this year that, as per her filings, Allman blows through his roughly $120,000 in annual trust payments on drugs and hotels.
Allman’s brother Devon backed the petition, writing to the court in April that Allman “is currently a danger to himself and unable to manage his life,” People reported.
“My recent visit to check in on him brought me unfortunate and profound sadness that took weeks of my life to process,” Devon added. “His condition, both physical and mental, was appalling and delusional, respectively.”
A judge denied her request for a temporary conservatorship in April.
This is an ongoing legal matter, and the allegations against Allman have not been proven in court.
