Cindy Crawford Continues to ‘Trash Talk’ Daughter Kaia Gerber’s Ex-Boyfriend Austin Butler (Exclusive)

It’s been nearly a year since Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler decided to call it quits, but Cindy Crawford is still bitter over her daughter’s break-up.

A source tells the National Enquirer that the supermodel, 59, was not a fan of the Elvis actor, 34, and continues to “trash-talk” him all over Hollywood.

“They let Austin into the family because Kaia wanted a real future with him,” says the source. “But he was a party animal at heart and there’s a clear argument that Austin was using Kaia to bolster his own Hollywood connections and get a foot in the door of the establishment.”

Though Gerber, 24, has since moved on from the split — she is currently dating Top Gun: Maverick star Lewis Pullman — her mother can’t seem to.

“Cindy has been very vocal within her social circle, pushing back on the idea that Austin is just some kind of innocent angel or deer in the headlights who got distracted by his Oscar nomination and sudden status as a leading man,” says the source. “She’s not letting that story stand.”

Rather, “Cindy is quick to remind people that Austin knew exactly what he was getting into and, for a while at least, basked in the easy attention that came from associating with such a famous and well-connected family,” adds the source.

What annoys Crawford the most, though, is that Butler’s plan actually worked, reveals the source. “Austin’s really made a name for himself.” Meanwhile, Gerber, a model turned actress, “continues, despite all her efforts, to be mostly a supporting player,” the source notes. “That’s the real irritation for Cindy.”
