Charlie Sheen On Being A ‘Raving Lunatic’ During Addiction Spiral: ‘I Still Get Shame Shivers’

Finally winning again! Now eight years sober, Charlie Sheen is opening up about his shocking behavior during the height of his addiction to drugs and alcohol that made headlines in 2011.

“I still get what I call the ‘shame shivers,’ ” the actor, 60, told People in an interview published on Tuesday, September 2. “These are the moments that hit me, of the heinous memories and choices and consequences.”

His downward spiral culminated in his firing from Two and a Half Men — which had made him the highest-paid actor on TV — in 2011. He then gave multiple infamous interviews in which he declared he had “tiger blood” in his veins and was living with three porn stars he called “the goddesses.”

His drugs of choice, he said, were crack, opiates and heroin. In his upcoming memoir, The Book of Sheen, he also writes that he used a testosterone cream that turned him into a “raving lunatic,” per People.

On November 17, 2015, Sheen revealed on Today that he had been living with HIV for the past four years.

In 2017, the Wall Street star completely gave up drugs and alcohol.  “I keep a [mental list] of the worst, most shameful things I’ve done, and I can look at that in my head if I feel like having a drink,” he told People, adding that he stays off drugs because “I like to think the next hit would kill me.”

His sobriety was inspired by his kids — Sami, 21, and Lola, 20, with ex-wife Denise Richards, and twins Max and Bob, 16, with ex-wife Brooke Mueller.

Richards, 54, Mueller, 48, and Lola are among the friends and loved ones — including longtime pal Sean Penn, former costar Jon Cryer, Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss and even Sheen’s old drug dealer — who appear in the new Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, which premieres on September 10, the day after his memoir is due to be released.

“Most of my 50s were spent apologizing to the people I hurt,” Sheen told People.

“What has been interesting about making amends is that most people have been like, ‘Hey yeah, we’re good man, but we hope you’ve also forgiven yourself.’ ”
