A former MMA fighter has been sentenced to prison after assaulting a woman during an incident that was witnessed during a FaceTime call with Barron Trump.
According to a report from the New York Post published on Thursday, March 27, Matvei Rumiantsev was sentenced to four years behind bars following the January 2025 attack, which took place in London.
Authorities said the woman was on a video call with Trump, 20, at the time of the assault. During the call, he reportedly saw part of the incident unfold and later contacted law enforcement from the United States.
Rumiantsev, 23, was convicted of assault and perverting the course of justice after attempting to persuade the victim to withdraw her claims. He was found not guilty of additional charges, including strangulation.
“Your lack of insight and empathy was apparent at trial,” the judge said during sentencing, per the New York Post. “You continue to try to blame the complainant for everything that has happened.”

The former MMA fighter claimed that the woman, who has not been identified for legal reasons, referred to Trump as her “sweetheart” after the two allegedly met on social media.
She testified that Rumiantsev called her a “s**t and we” while grabbing her hair and choking her. He then allegedly kicked her in the stomach as her phone rang with a FaceTime call from Trump, which Rumiantsev answered and turned the camera to show the woman lying on the floor.
“He helped save my life,” she said, referring to Trump. “That call was like a sign from God at that moment.”
After witnessing part of the incident, the first son contacted police in London to report what he had seen.
In the call, he told an operator, “It’s really an emergency … I’m calling from the US, uh, I just got a call from a girl, you know, she’s getting beat up.”
He later provided a written statement to authorities describing the interaction.

“The individual who picked up the phone was a shirtless man with darkish hair, although I didn’t get a good look, this view lasted maybe one second and I was racing with adrenaline,” the message read. “The camera was then flipped to the victim getting hit while crying, stating something in Russian. The guy had hung up. This whole interaction had lasted 5 to 7 seconds.”
Trump was commended by the judge for his actions and said that he “properly and responsibly, despite being in the United States, made sure the emergency services here were called, and he told them what he had seen.”
