The White House is embracing social media — but at the expense of news outlets across the country.
On Monday, November 3, the Trump administration raised eyebrows with a TikTok featuring an unexpected soundtrack: Taylor Swift’s new single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” from her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, released last month.
The TikTok video shows lyrics of the No. 1 song and is accompanied with various photos of President Trump to match it.
The TikTok pairs lyrics from the hit with photos of Trump in various settings. For instance, the video opens with the chorus — “Keep it 100 on the land, the sea, the sky / Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes” — accompanied by images of the military, a ship, an airplane, and an American flag. Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance appear on the line “your team,” while Melania Trump and Vance’s wife appear when Swift sings “your vibes.”
Trump’s mugshot is shown as Swift sings, “Don’t care where the hell you’ve been,” followed by a clip of him kissing the American flag as she croons, “‘cause now you’re mine.”
Of course, the video does poke fun at Swift’s lyrics by changing her iconic “The Fate of Ophelia” line into “The fate of America,” showing Trump working behind the counter at a McDonald’s.
The White House captioned the TikTok, “OUR VIBES” 🇺🇸. The video was liked over 689,000 times and shared more than 213,000 times.

After it went viral, the White House released a statement to multiple outlets, including Variety, writing, “We made this video because we knew fake news media brands would breathlessly amplify them. Congrats, you got played.”
Trump has been openly critical of Swift in the past. After she endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, Trump reportedly wrote on Truth Social that he “hates” the pop star. He also claimed earlier this year that she’s “no longer hot.”
More recently, however, he offered a more neutral comment following Swift’s engagement to NFL star TravisKelce. “I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck,” he said in a news conference.
