The Oscar frontrunner — who’s already scored prizes at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards for his performance in Marty Supreme — is struggling to make friends in Hollywood, with a source blaming the lack of genuine connections on the actor’s supersized ambitions.
“He’s shamelessly chasing fame,” alleges the source. “He’s just pushing too hard — it’s as if Timothée would sell his kidney for an Academy Award.”
According to the source, the 30-year-old’s behavior looks “pathetic” to those who’ve known him for years, while his film peers find it “desperate.”
“The close friendships of Timmy’s early twenties have fallen away and he hasn’t been able to replace them with anything,” the source confirms to the National Enquirer.
But the source claims Chalamet’s three-year relationship with the cosmetics mogul, 28, isn’t helping matters.
“Timothée and Kylie can look like robots when they’re out together,” says the source. “People want to see some humanity from him, that he can handle the fame game with grace and humility. That simply has not happened yet!”
In December, Buzzfeed reported that the leading man received backlash from fans after praising his own work during a since-deleted Margaret Gardiner interview.
“It’s been like seven, eight years that I feel like I’ve been handing in really, really committed, top-of-the-line performances,” Chalamet boasted, per Buzzfeed. “It’s important to say it out loud because the discipline and the work ethic I’m bringing to these things, I don’t want people to take for granted.”
