Sunny Hostin is facing major backlash after some accused her of having a double standard when it comes to her son, Gabriel Hostin, after he was hit with a trespassing violation in New York.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Gabriel, 24, was cited on June 16 after he was accused of trespassing on the right-of-way of active railroad tracks.

In the documents, per the outlet, The View cohost, 57, who is a former federal prosecutor and attorney, is listed as her son’s lawyer and wrote a letter to the New Rochelle City District Attorney, Amanda Greene, requesting the case be dropped before the scheduled hearing.

The impassioned plea noted that her son has no criminal record or “prior contact with the criminal justice system,” adding that he is a Harvard University graduate and an avid runner who was in the area “training” when he made what she called an “honest mistake.”

Sunny, who was born Asunción Cummings, said her son entered a gated area because he believed it was open to the public, as there were no visible “No Trespassing” signs, while looking for a place to do hill training.

It’s not just the letter that has people talking: It’s what she reportedly said to the arresting officers that’s raising some eyebrows, with TMZ adding that the TV personality touted her status on The View to get her son out of the ticket.

“Sunny Hostin spent years preaching that nobody is above the law. Then her own son gets cited for trespassing, and the excuses start rolling in: ‘He’s a Harvard graduate.’ ‘He has no criminal record.’ ‘Do you know who I am? I’m on The View.’ The hypocrisy writes itself. 😂,” one user wrote on X, with another adding that Sunny, who has long preached about equal justice, just demonstrated “how liberal privilege works” in the case of her son.

Another reminded Sunny that even with her son’s educational background and clean criminal record, he too is not above the law just because he has a famous parent.

“A college degree, a clean record, or a famous parent doesn’t place anyone above the law. If the allegations are true, the legal process should play out the same way it would for anyone else,” the user wrote. “Equal justice shouldn’t depend on who your parents are.”

Others, meanwhile, called it “interesting” that her “no one is above the law” ideology applies only to her son. At the same time, another user pointed out how Sunny uses the term on The View to refer to her political enemies, including President Donald Trump and top Republicans and, at times, fellow Democrat Joe Biden, with some users calling Sunny a “hypocrite” for defending Gabriel, while slamming the former president after he pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, for federal crimes he committed.

Arguing that the citation should be dismissed, Sunny added, in the letter obtained by TMZ, “Dismissal would avoid imposing unnecessary consequences on a young man who has demonstrated exceptional character and achievement and who poses no risk to the community.”

Gabriel has a court appearance scheduled for July 31.
