Texas Trooper Plays Cartoons For Lost Child Found Wandering In Street

A Texas state trooper recently spotted a small child wandering alone in the street on a hot day and kept him cool with air conditioning and cartoons while searching for his guardian.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a “routine patrol quickly turned into a rescue” in North Texas and shared a video of the encounter on social media.

The video shows the trooper driving through a residential area and coming to a stop when a very young child walks into the street. The trooper places the child inside the air-conditioned patrol vehicle and begins searching for the child’s residence or guardian.

EMS responded to the scene to evaluate the child “as a precaution,” while the trooper played cartoons on his phone “to help the little one stay calm.” The child’s guardian was soon located, and they were safely reunited.

The agency is reminding parents and guardians that even children as young as toddlers can slip out an unlocked door.

“We’re grateful this situation had a safe outcome and serves as an important reminder to ensure doors, locks, and other safety measures are secure, especially for children who may be prone to wandering,” the agency said. “Outstanding work by Trooper Walter for staying alert, showing compassion, and taking every precaution to ensure the child’s safety.”
