Suspect Allegedly Kills Dog While Fleeing Road Rage Incident In Oregon

Two people are facing charges Oregon after an alleged road rage incident led to the death of a dog and the discovery of firearms and narcotics, police said.

The Hillsboro Police Department said officers responded to a reported road rage incident near NE Cornell Road and NE 25th Avenue at around 10:40 a.m. Thursday. A driver had allegedly displayed a firearm and threatened another motorist.

Officers canvassed the area and found the suspect vehicle stopped in a residential neighborhood near NE 15th Avenue and NE Sunrise Lane. When a passenger tried to walk away from the vehicle, they were detained and found to be in possession of a firearm and a “large quantity” of an unspecified controlled substance.

While the passenger was being detained, the driver fled the scene in the vehicle. The suspect drove through neighborhoods and allegedly intentionally crashed through a residential fence on the border of a wetland area near NE 13th Avenue and NE Maureen Street. Police say the driver allegedly killed a dog in the process.

With assistance from the Hillsboro Police K-9 team, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team and the Washington County drone team, the driver was located and taken into custody.

The driver allegedly admitted having a firearm in the vehicle, and it was later recovered by officers.

The driver, who was not named, is facing charges of animal abuse, criminal mischief, felony eluding, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing.

The passenger, who also was not named, is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and drug-related offenses.

Police said the investigation is still active, and charges were “still being finalized.”
