Shocked Garbage Collector Finds Suspect Hiding In Trash Bin In Ohio

A police dashboard camera video shows the moment a shocked garbage collector in Ohio found a suspect hiding in a trash can.

The Huber Heights Police Department said Officer Tyree initiated a traffic stop on Monday, but the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Tyree “briefly lost sight” of the suspect and established a perimeter in the area.

“As luck would have it, ‘Oscar the Grouch’ — as we’ve nicknamed our suspect — appeared at just the right place and the right time,” police said.

A dashboard camera video shared by police shows a garbage truck making the rounds just in front of the stopped patrol vehicle. A garbage collector can be seen preparing to empty a bin into the truck, opening the lid, then scrambling backwards in fright, tripping over the curb.

The garbage collector seems to spot the police car nearby and flags down the officer, jumping up and down and pointing to the garbage bin. At that point, a man climbs out of the garbage and sets off running.

“Thanks to the impressive athletic ability and swift response of our very own Officer Perez, the suspect was safely apprehended,” police said.

The suspect’s identity was not immediately released.
