Seattle Dad Fights Off Knife-Wielding Intruder With Frying Pan

Police say a Seattle father used a frying pan to fend off a home intruder early Friday, and a fight with the knife-wielding suspect injured them both.

The Seattle Police Department said officers responded at around 2:40 a.m. to a report of a burglary in progress on the 6100 block of Brooklyn Avenue Northeast. The 61-year-old homeowner’s 15-year-old daughter texted 911, reporting they were in the home when an intruder broke in and armed himself with a kitchen knife.

The father armed himself with a frying pan, and fought with the suspect. Police said the suspect chased the homeowner outside and stabbed him in the leg. The man “defended himself,” and as they fought in the front yard, police say the suspect was “believed to be stabbed” as well.

The Seattle Fire Department treated the homeowner for stab wounds and he was transported to the hospital in stable condition. his daughter was uninjured.

Firefighters also treated the suspect, who was transported to the hospital in serious condition with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, who was not immediately identified, is under arrest for residential burglary and felony assault, and remained under armed guard at Harborview Medical Center, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
