San Antonio Spurs play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey is no longer with the organization after an abrupt departure that has fueled speculation online.
Spurs Sports & Entertainment, the team’s parent company, declined to comment, and the team has not publicly announced a reason for the split, according to a report published by KSAT on Thursday, July 9. Multiple unnamed sources confirmed Tobey is no longer with the Spurs, per the report.
According to the X account Underdog NBA, Tobey was let go after his girlfriend of six years accused him of cheating with Loren Waters, identified as the sister of 28-year-old San Antonio Spurs forward/guard Lindy Waters III. The account shared a screenshot purportedly from Tobey’s own page that read, “This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. … So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :)”

KSAT noted it could not independently verify the allegation, and it’s unclear whether the screenshot was posted by Tobey himself or someone with access to his account before it was set to private.
According to LatinNation, Loren is an award-winning filmmaker and producer. A citizen of the Cherokee Nation with Kiowa heritage, she founded Waters Media and has worked on projects including Reservation Dogs, Fancy Dance and The Lowdown. Her short documentary Tiger won the Short Film Special Jury Award for Directing at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
According to the article, weeks before the allegation surfaced, Tobey announced on X that he’d signed a multi-year extension to remain with the Spurs. “Thank you to the @spurs players, coaches & fans! I’m excited to announce that I signed a multi-year extension to stay with the Spurs (on the ⛳️😆),” he wrote in a June 18 post, adding, “I love this city!”
Tobey had just wrapped his second full season calling Spurs games alongside team legend Sean Elliott. Per the report, he was hired by the organization in October 2024 to replace longtime play-by-play announcer Bill Land. Before joining the Spurs, Tobey worked as a sports anchor in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Denver, while also moonlighting as a play-by-play announcer for Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network.
