The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is reminding motorists to remain vigilant to possible warning signs for vehicle fires after a rare purple Lamborghini Aventador inexplicably went up in flames last week.

CHP San Jose said officers responded to a reported vehicle fire last week, and arrived to find a purple Lamborghini Aventador, worth an estimated $500,000, burning on the side of the road.

CHP said the cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, but there is “no indication that the incident was caused by any specific mechanical issue.”

“Vehicle fires can occur unexpectedly. We remind everyone to stay alert to warning signs such as unusual smells, smoke, leaking fluids, overheating, or electrical issues,” the agency said.

The car appears to belong to content creator Gabe Farrell, who wrote a farewell message to his “personal dream car” on Instagram.

“I really wish this was Ai… but no one was hurt & cars can always be replaced,” he wrote alongside images of the Lamborghini.

“This car was truly a work of art & I’m so blessed to be able to have owned it/enjoyed it while it was here,” he continued. “This is your sign to ENJOY YOUR CARS because they can be gone in an instant.”

CHP is reminding motorists that if their vehicle catches fire while in use, they should safely pull over and turn off the engine as soon as possible, exit the vehicle and move a safe distance away, then call 911. Motorists should not return to a burning vehicle to retrieve belongings, and should not open the hood or trunk during an active fire, as additional oxygen can intensify the flames.

“Regular vehicle maintenance can help identify potential problems before they become serious. If you notice something unusual with your vehicle, have it inspected by a qualified mechanic,” the agency said. “Stay safe, stay alert, and when in doubt, get out.”
