Police Chase Runaway Pig On New Mexico Interstate
Police in New Mexico responded to a “wild” scene this week when a pig on the run caused traffic chaos on Interstate 40.
The Albuquerque Police Department said officers responded to a report of a suspect “with four legs, a snout, and a surprisingly good set of wheels” taking a “joyrun” through traffic on I-40 near Louisiana Boulevard on Tuesday.
The pig was “dodging cars and officers alike,” causing the eastbound lanes of the highway to be temporarily shut down.
A video shared by the police department shows the surprisingly fast pig racing along the roadway as officers give chase up a ramp. As an officer pursues on foot, other follow behind in vehicles to try to corner the animal.
“After a brief (but spirited) foot pursuit, our team managed to safely detain the porky perpetrator,” police said.
“Were happy to report that no one was hurt, and the pig is currently being held at the Westside Shelter awaiting release on his own recognizance,” police said. “Wed like to thank our officers for their quick response, the public for their patience, and the pig for keeping things interesting.”
