U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Texas recently seized more than $1.7 million worth of cocaine from a vehicle driven by a U.S. citizen.

CBP officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry’s Del Rio International Bridge on Aug. 4 encountered a 2013 Dodge Durango driven by a 29-year-old U.S. man and referred the vehicle for secondary inspection using a nonintrusive inspection system.

During a physical search, officers found 49 packages hidden within the quarter panels of the vehicle. The packages contained a total of 129.67 pounds of alleged cocaine, valued at $1,731,425.

CBP seized the cocaine, and one person was arrested by Homeland Security Investigations special agents, who launched a criminal investigation.

“This significant seizure is a direct result of the unwavering vigilance and commitment of our CBP officers,” said Port Director Liliana Flores, Del Rio Port of Entry. “This is a clear example of how our investment in technology and training directly impacts our ability to secure the border and protect our communities.”
