Ohio Man Allegedly Killed Ex-Girlfriend, U.S. Soldier In North Carolina On Valentine’s Day
An Ohio man is facing charges in North Carolina for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend and a U.S. soldier on Valentine’s Day.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded at around 7:45 a.m. on Feb. 14 to a report of a shooting at a residence on Daphne Lane in the Woodlake community of Vass. They arrived to find a woman and a man dead at the scene.
The victims were identified as 21-year-old Kateryna Tovmash of Vass and 28-year-old Matthew Wade, 28, of Hamilton, Miss. Hamilton was a U.S. Soldier stationed at Fort Bragg. The incident occurred at Tovmash’s residence.
Detectives identified 25-year-old Caleb Hayden Fosnaugh of Ohio as the suspect. According to investigators, Fosnaugh and Tovmash, a Ukrainian refugee, had a prior relationship in Ohio.
Believing Fosnaugh was likely headed back to Ohio in a white 2018 Ford Mustang, Moore County detectives contacted the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio to request assistance apprehending him.
The Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office said it coordinated with Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation, and troopers ultimately located the suspect vehicle traveling toward Coshocton County at approximately 2:18 p.m. At 2:31 p.m., troopers and deputies conducted a traffic stop in Linton Township.
Fosnaugh was taken into custody and transported to the Coshocton County Justice Center. The Moore County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active.
“This is a tragic and senseless loss of life. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims during this difficult time,” Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields said in a statement. “We are grateful for the swift coordination and assistance from our law enforcement partners in bringing this individual into custody.”
