NYPD Officers Jump Into East River To Rescue Woman In Distress
New York City Police officers this week jumped into the “frigid” East River to rescue a woman in “crisis,” police said.
A video shared by the NYPD shows officers from the 32nd Precinct responding to a report of a person “in crisis” on the water shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The woman in the river can be heard screaming as officers jumped into the “frigid” waters. An officer can be heard asking if she can swim, and she repeatedly shouts “no,” though it’s unclear if that was in answer to his question.
An officer swims her back to the rocky embankment, where additional officers help pull her out of the water.
Police indicated the situation may have been an attempted suicide.
“If you or someone you know is struggling, call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988,” police said.
