NY Man Allegedly Tried To Kill Sister With Crossbow Over House Temperature

A New York man is facing charges for allegedly trying to kill his older sister with a crossbow because he wanted the house to be warmer, authorities said.

The Nassau County Police Department on Tuesday announced charges against 21-year-old Samy Sedhom in connection with the Friday crossbow attack.

Police say officers responded at around 9:23 p.m. Friday to a residence in the unincorporated area of Lawrence on Long Island. They arrived to find the victim, Sedhom’s 28-year-old sister, bleeding from a laceration on her face. She had just returned home and was attempting to close the garage door when she felt pain in her face where the arrow grazed her, and called police. Officers found an arrow lodged in the wall of the garage.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly told News 12 Long Island the victim’s ear was torn and the shooting was just inches away from homicide.

Court documents reveal Sedhom was allegedly lying in wait across the street until his sister came home from the gym. He allegedly admitted to investigators he had been planning to kill her since Christmas 2025.

Donnelly told News 12 the shooting was motivated by a “brother-sister rivalry” over what temperature their house should be. “She liked to keep it cooler, he wanted it warmer,” Donnelly told the outlet.

Sedhom was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and first-degree stalking. He was arraigned on Sunday, and an order of protection was issued for his sister.
