More details are coming to light regarding Nick Reiner’s troubled past.
The 32-year-old, who has been charged in the murders of his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, once admitted to acting out in hopes of getting a prescription for Wellbutrin, an antidepressant used to treat major depressive disorder.
In a 2016 podcast interview on Dopey — which tells “candid tales of addiction, recovery, and humor” — Nick revealed how he was able to get drugs while at Alina Lodge, a treatment center in Hardwick Township, New Jersey.

“The way I got Wellbutrin is actually really funny,” began Nick, who has previously been open about his history of substance abuse and addiction.
“I was at Alina Lodge,” he continued. “But they refused to give me meds, so to prove I was crazy — because they were like, ‘You don’t need any meds,’ and I was freaking out… I was like, ‘You don’t think I need meds?’ And they [said], ‘Yeah, we think this is all an act here — this is all just fake.’”
Nick explained that he went back to the men’s barracks, called “The Roost,” and thought to himself, “How do I show these mother f**kers that I’m crazy?” He added, “So I was like, ‘I’ll throw a rock through a window.’”

He made his way to the facility’s meeting room that had “these big glass windows, and they loved it,” he said.
“I took a rock,” he continued, “and my friend Peter was like, ‘Where are you going, man?’ I was like, ‘Can’t talk. I gotta do this.’ I went and threw a rock through the window, and some woman saw me, and she ratted on me, and then they put me on Wellbutrin.”
As National Enquirer previously reported, Nick has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders and a special allegation that he used a knife.
He was located and arrested on Sunday, December 14, at approximately 9:15 p.m. local time — hours after the iconic Hollywood director, 78, and his wife, 70, were murdered and found with knife wounds — according to the LAPD.

Rob and Michele, who also share children Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, met working together on When Harry Met Sally… before they tied the knot in 1989.
According to the BBC, his high-profile attorney Alan Jackson told reporters on December 17, “We ask that during this process, you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward. Not with a rush to judgement, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity, and with the respect that this system and this process deserves, and that the family deserves.”
