NBC Is Putting ‘No Pressure’ on Savannah Guthrie to Return to Work: ‘This Goes Way Beyond TV’

As the search for Savannah Guthrie’s missing mom, Nancy Guthrie, continues, NBC is reportedly putting “absolutely no pressure” on the Today host to return.

“She’s being told to take all the time she needs,” Rob Shuter reported on his Naughty But Nice Substack on Sunday, February 8. “This goes way beyond TV.”

Nancy, 84, was reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after friends noticed she was absent from her regular church service. The mother of three is without her life-saving medication, which Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos claimed could be “fatal.”

Unverified ransom letters were sent to various news outlets in connection with Nancy’s disappearance. One letter reportedly demanded $6 million in bitcoin be transferred to a private account by Monday, February 9, at 5 p.m. local time, per Page Six.

While the motive behind Nancy’s abduction remains unclear, a source told Shuter, “If this has anything to do with Savannah’s fame, she may never come back. No job is worth risking your family.”

The beloved Today host, 54, already backed out of traveling to Milan, Italy, for scheduled coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony. Mary Carillo stepped in to replace her.

“Fill-in hosts are being discussed, schedules are being adjusted,” another source told Shuter. “This isn’t about replacing Savannah — it’s about keeping the show steady while she’s gone.”
