Missouri State Fair Cancels Sea Lion Shows After Their Truck Crashes
The Missouri State Fair has canceled its Sea Lion Splash shows after the truck hauling the animals crashed early Thursday, officials said.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said troopers responded shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday to a single-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 70 in Boone County.
According to a crash report, they arrived to find a truck hauling three sea lions had gone off the road “for an undetermined reason” and struck a concrete median barrier. One passenger, a 27-year-old woman, sustained “moderate” injuries and was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia. The driver, a 59-year-old man, was uninjured.
The sea lions were uninjured, but veterinarians from the University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center responded to the scene to evaluate the sea lions and assist in transporting them away from the scene.

“Working a crash involving 3 sea lions was NOT on Trooper Fox’s bingo card this morning,” the agency joked.
