Juvenile Skunk Trapped In Bowl At Colorado Skate Park Safely Rescued Without Spraying Anyone
A juvenile was rescued at a Colorado skate park on Tuesday morning, but it wasn’t a local teen enjoying summer break, it was a young skunk that couldn’t climb back out of the bowl.
The Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District said Engine 301 was dispatched to Frederick Skate Park shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday for a “rather unique rescue.” A juvenile skunk had ventured into the large bowl at the north end of the park and couldn’t climb back out.
Frederick Police brought an animal catch pole to the scene so firefighters could keep a safe distance from potential skunk spray and “safely lift our striped friend to freedom.”
Photos shared by the fire department show the little skunk trying and failing to climb the sloped wall of the bowl before being scooped into the net by a firefighter.
“The skunk wandered off none the worse for wear, and perhaps most importantly… not a single firefighter or police officer got sprayed,” the fire department said.
