Joy Behar Recalls Barbara Walters Temporarily Firing Her For Leaking News About ‘The View’

Joy Behar, 79, recently revealed that the late Barbara Walters almost fired her from The View in 2006.

“I spilled the beans that Rosie O’Donnell was coming on the show,” Joy recounts on the Hulu special Behind the Table: A View Reunion, according to a story published by People, who obtained an exclusive clip.

Barbara had wanted to announce Rosie would be joining the morning chat show at the Emmys, but Joy says she forgot to keep it a secret and told Entertainment Tonight.

That’s when Walters called and told her, “I want you to know that I’m not renewing your contract!” Joy says. “[She] was furious that I would have such a big mouth.”

“For a minute, I was stunned,” says Joy, who tried to defend herself. “Barbara, it was just a mistake … You know how I am when I’m shopping.”

Later the same day, Barbara relented and rehired her.

The stand-up comedian has been on The View since it debuted in 1997, though she took a break from 2013 to 2015.

But almost three decades in, she is still getting her in trouble, most recently with Bethenny Frankel. In a segment on The View, Joy said the Real Housewives of New York City alum has “fake boobs” while discussing her appearance in a bathing suit in a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit fashion show.

In a TikTok posted on her personal account, Bethenny, 54, slammed Joy, saying she had previously gotten a breast lift, not an augmentation, adding that the runway show proved “women of a certain age” could feel and look good.
