He’s charming and dating America’s sweetheart — but Jennifer Aniston’s new man walks with a secret.
Jim Curtis, the life coach and former Wall Street trader now romantically linked to the Friends icon, walks with a noticeable limp — the result of a mystery spinal illness that nearly destroyed him in his 20s.
“Jim told everyone it was from a motorcycle accident,” a close source tells the National Enquirer. “But the truth is much darker.”
At just 22, Curtis was diagnosed with lesions on his spinal cord, leaving him barely able to walk.
“He was in so much pain, he said he wanted to die,” the source reveals. “He was paralyzed, depressed and terrified.”
For years, Curtis quietly battled muscle spasms, nerve damage and chronic fatigue, and kept the real reason behind his private health issue a secret – even from people close to him.
“Jim is incredibly self-conscious about the way he walks,” the source adds. “It’s the first thing he worries people notice.”
While Curtis has slowly begun to speak out — sharing fragments of his health journey — insiders say he still doesn’t fully accept it.
“He’s spent so long pretending to be perfect,” one confidante explains. “But Jen doesn’t care about perfection. She likes that he’s real.”

Curtis and Aniston sparked rumors of romance earlier this year after being spotted out and about together. In June, they were seen together at a restaurant in Big Sur in Northern California, and on Fourth of July weekend, they were photographed enjoying a getaway to Mallorca with the actress’ close pal Jason Bateman and his wife, Amanda Anka.
“This was a huge step for Jen, inviting him along,” an insider reecntly said, according to Star. “She wanted Jim to meet her best friends.”
While another insider told the outlet that Aniston’s friends have been warning her to “pump the brakes” on their low-key romance, as Curtis is reportedly prone to getting “bored” of relationships, the hypnotist’s ex, Alyssa Pettinato, had nothing but nice things to say!
Calling him “unproblematic, pragmatic and calm” she recalled to the Daily Mail that he was “easy to have a conversation with” and suggested that he would make a “fantastic partner” for someone.
As for why their relationship ended, Pettinato admitted it was her fault – she “ghosted” him!
“We’re just acquaintances, but I have nothing bad to say about him,” she explained. “I think everything happens for a reason, and I feel like we’re both where we’re supposed to be.”
