Horse Rescued From ‘Precarious Position’ After Failing To Jump Out Stall Window

Firefighters in Virginia came to the rescue of a horse that got himself into a “precarious position” over the Fourth of July weekend.

The Hanover County Fire–EMS Department said units from its Montpelier and Doswell stations responded along with personnel from Goochland County Fire-Rescue to a report of a horse in distress. They arrived to find the horse, a 3-year-old named Julian, in a “precarious position.”

Photos shared by the fire department show Julian halfway through what appears to be an open window in a horse stall. His forelegs are on the ground outside while his hind legs remain inside, and the wall appears to be digging uncomfortable into his underside.

The fire department said “careful coordination” was required to safely free Julian. photos show bales of hay were set around Julian so he could rest his head while crews assembled an apparatus to help lift his rear end off the window frame.

Another photo appears to show the wall was ultimately cut around Julian, allowing him to walk free. 

“Thanks to the teamwork and expertise of our crews, Julian was safely rescued and is doing well,” the fire department said. “Great work by all involved, and a reminder of the diverse calls our department is ready to handle at any time.”
