Horse Rescued After Falling Down Muddy Embankment In Virginia
Crews in Virginia spent hours working to rescue a horse that had fallen down a muddy embankment late Wednesday night, officials said.
Chesterfield County Fire and EMS said members of its Technical Rescue Team responded shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday to assist Amelia County Fire and EMS with a horse rescue on the 16800 block of Royalton Road in Amelia.
The horse had fallen and was stuck approximately six feet down a muddy embankment. Crews worked together to set up a rope and harness system, and the horse was finally hoisted out of the ravine at around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Crews from Goochland County Fire and Rescue and Hanover Fire and EMS also assisted.
Photos and videos shared by Chesterfield County Fire and EMS show the horse chest-deep in mud at the bottom of the embankment before rescue. The animal, completely covered in a think layer of mud, appeared tired as it was hoisted, hanging limply in the harness, but was able to stand and walk away on its own.
Additional photos show Animal control personnel helping to wash the horse after it was pulled to safety.
