Greg Gutfeld watched closely as fellow Fox News host Sean Hannity navigated a medical issue in June, reveals a source, because he’s eager to take the conservative commentator’s “spot at the top” of the network.
“Sean is the king of the castle and nobody expects him to give that up willingly, so when Greg got a whiff of weakness, he was ready to pounce,” the source claims. “He would never wish anything bad on Sean, but Greg does feel that at this point he should be wearing the crown at Fox and getting all the perks that come with it — including a much bigger payday.”

On June 24, the Hannity star addressed fan concern about his recent on-air “raspy voice” and “puffy face” on X, revealing they were side effects of the prescription he was given to treat a “painful pinched nerve” in his neck.
“My doctor put me on prednisone to reduce the inflammation, and while it’s helping, it led to laryngitis and some puffiness, which is normal for this medication,” he wrote. “I’m fine.”
Though the 64-year-old is now “well on the mend,” says the source, the Gutfeld! host, 61, as well as other TV insiders had been “wondering if this might finally be the moment Sean would have to slow down.”
“Greg respects him enormously,” adds the source. “But there’s always been an element of envy there too. Everybody knows he’d love to be seen as the No. 1 at Fox. He’s had huge ratings for years and genuinely believes he’s earned that status.”
