Authorities in Georgia are seeking the public’s help locating stolen art that remains missing months after a suspect was arrested for the alleged thefts.
The Chatham County Police Department said it is trying to locate nearly $100,000 worth of art, musical instruments and other items that were stolen from a unit at the Extra Space Storage facility on Johnny Mercer Boulevard, which was reported burglarized on Sept. 1, 2025.
Among the stolen items are three paintings, valued at nearly $10,000 each, which have not yet been recovered: “High Water on the French Broad” by Joseph Cave ($8,100); “Family” by David Banegas ($9,000); and “October Picante XVIII” by Jonas Gerard ($9,300).
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Hunter Dempsey, was arrested in December 2025 and charged in connection with this and other alleged storage facility thefts.
Detectives, however, are still searching for stolen items including the paintings.
Anyone who recognizes the paintings or who has any information about the case is asked to contact the Chatham County Police Department. Anonymous tips can be sent through the Chatham County Police Department app, the department’s online tip form, or by calling Crime Stoppers at 912-234-2020.
