Florida Man Arrested For Shooting At Park Ranger After 40-Minute SWAT Standoff
A Florida man accused of firing shots at a park ranger Sunday night was taken into custody after a 40-minute standoff with SWAT, authorities said.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office warned the public of a “large sheriff’s office presence” in the North Passage community near Tequesta following reports that a man had fired shots at a park ranger inside Jonathan Dickinson State Park before fleeing into the neighborhood.
The suspect, identified as Douglas Bunker, fled into a home and barricaded himself inside, prompting the Sheriffs Office SWAT team, negotiators, road patrol units, and aviation to converge on the scene. Residents were asked to avoid the area and remain inside their homes. After approximately 40 minutes of negotiation, SWAT officers removed Bunker from the home and took him into custody.
A video shared by the sheriff’s office shows a large law enforcement presence surrounding the house as Bunker emerges with his hands up.
Bunker was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
