Florida Man Allegedly Threw Bricks At Random Vehicle Before Hiding In Canal
A Florida man is facing charges after he threw brick’s at a random vehicle then fled into nearby woods and hid in a canal, authorities said.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded Sunday to a residence in Lehigh Acres, a suburb of Fort Myers, for a report that a man was “spontaneously hurling multiple bricks at a residents vehicle.”
A video shared by the sheriff’s office shows the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Martin Zavala, emerging from a nearby wooded area holding a brick in each hand. A resident who was outside observing asked from off-screen, “What do you want?” and Zavala responded by throwing the bricks at a vehicle parallel parked in a front yard. A man can be seen running toward Zavala, who flees into a nearby tree line.
Responding deputies tracked Zavala to where he was hiding in a nearby canal. Body-worn camera video shows Zavala exiting the canal with his hands up following orders from deputies.
Zavala was arrested and booked into the Lee County Jail on charges of criminal mischief and use of a deadly weapon.
