A Florida father is facing charges for allegedly driving at speeds over 100 mph while intoxicated, and while his 3-year-old child was improperly restrained in the backseat, authorities said.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies clocked a motorist traveling at 102 mph in a 55 mph zone on State Road 82 at around 6:30 p.m. on May 23 and initiated a traffic stop.
Body-worn camera video of the encounter released this week shows a deputy telling the driver to step out of the vehicle.
“My daughter’s back there,” he says.
“Yeah, that’s even worse,” the deputy responds. “102 miles an hour in a 55 with a 3-year-old in the back of your car who’s not seat belted.”
The driver, identified as Jorge Garcia of Lehigh Acres, told deputies he was on his way home from a pool party where he had consumed a few drinks. His 3-year-old child was in the backseat, and was allegedly not properly restrained.
“You’re worried about her being good now but you weren’t worried when you were doing 102, were you?” the deputy says.
Garcia was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle over 100 mph, refusal to submit to DUI testing, and DUI with a person under 18 in the vehicle.
