Florida Man Allegedly Caused Multiple Crashes, Drove On 3 Wheels, Tried To Bribe Deputies

A Florida man is facing charges for allegedly causing multiple hit-and-run crashes, continuing to drive without a wheel, then offering a $2,000 bribe to avoid jail, authorities said.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded Wednesday to multiple reports of hit-and-run crashes involving a “reckless driver” on Interstate 4 beginning in Seminole County and traveling into Volusia.

The sheriff’s office shared audio of one 911 caller and a bystander video showing a white pickup truck driving along I-4 on just three wheels, with sparks flying under the missing wheel.

Witnesses reported the truck struck a guardrail, lost the front wheel, and continued driving. The truck exited the interstate and ultimate got “stuck” at a construction site off Shell Road in DeBary.

Body-worn camera video shows deputies approaching the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Eric Drewry, who appeared to be under the influence. While placed into the back to the patrol vehicle in handcuffs, Drewry can be seen resisting and kicking a deputy.

When questioned by a trooper about the crash, Drewry said “What crash?”

While being transported to the hospital, Drewry allegedly “asked deputies multiple times to be released in exchange for $2,000,” the sheriff’s office said.

Drewry was charged by the sheriff’s office with resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement officer, and was separately charged by Florida Highway Patrol with DUI, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and refusal to submit to DUI testing.
