Florida Bookkeeper Accused Of Embezzling From HOAs To Fund Plastic Surgery, Vacations, Shopping

Authorities in Florida are seeking the public’s help locating a woman accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from homeowners associations (HOAs) to fund shopping trips, travel and plastic surgery.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said it has issued a warrant for the arrest of 46-year-old Alexandra Delacaridad Gonzalez, who was employed as a property management bookeepper at Avant-Garde Property Management. Gonzalez faces two counts of fraud exceeding $50,000, two counts of grand theft, 61 counts of uttering false instruments, and 59 counts of embezzlement. Her bond was set at $1,350,000.

According to investigators, Gonzalez allegedly used her position over an extended period of time to write checks to herself from HOA accounts she managed, and concealed the thefts with fictitious invoices and false ledger entries. She allegedly forged the signatures of authorized account holders.

Records subpoenaed by investigators allegedly show that Gonzalez used the stolen funds for personal expenses including lavish vacations, shopping, and plastic surgery.

The sheriff’s office said the suspected fraud was initially reported by victim HOAs. Two identified victims “at this time” are Whitemarsh Reserve Homeowners Association and The Dunes of Hutchinson Island.

The sheriff’s office said Gonzalez is believed to currently be in the Miramar or Vero Beach areas.
