A Florida 14-year-old was arrested Monday for allegedly bringing a realistic pellet gun to school, frightening other students, authorities said.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested a 14-year-old student at Mill Creek Academy in St. Augustine on Monday for allegedly being in possession of a weapon on school property, “which caused fear amongst students.”

The sheriff’s office shared a photo of the weapon, a black CO2 air pistol that fires pellets.

According to the sheriff’s office, the student hid the weapon in another student’s backpack in order to conceal it from school staff and law enforcement.

The student was transported to the St. Johns County Jail, though specific charges were not immediately released. The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
