FBI Investigating After Stolen Military Explosive Found In Florida Retirement Community The Villages
The FBI is investigating after explosives found in the Florida retirement community The Villages were confirmed to be stolen from the U.S. military.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office initially responded shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday to 1505 Yucatan Way in The Villages, a sprawling 55+ community northwest of Orlando, after someone reported finding what appeared to be explosive devices.
Homes in the immediate area were evacuated “out of an abundance of caution” and the nearby Lake County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene.
The devices were safely removed and investigators determined the explosives were “confirmed stolen from the military.”
The Sheriff’s Office provided no further details, and said the case has been turned over to the FBI.
