Family Dog Helps Deputy Detain Trespassing Alligator In Louisiana
When authorities in Louisiana responded to a report of an alligator on a residential property, they arrived to find the family dog had already taken the “trespasser” into custody.
The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a “reptilian trespasser” at a home on Hunters Hollow Drive at around 7 p.m. on May 5. Deputy Densmore arrived to find the homeowner’s dog carrying the three-foot gator.
Photos shared by the sheriff’s office on Monday show that even once deputies took custody of the alligator, the dog stayed alert and ready to assist.
“Not only was the family pet willing to pursue and detain the suspect gator, but in what appeared to be a strong audition for the K9 division, the dog clearly had the deputy’s back from the moment he arrived on scene,” the sheriff’s office said.
The alligator was safely transported and released “on his own re-croc-gnizance” to its natural habitat, the sheriff’s office said.
“Charges were not filed, but the alligator was advised that loitering and resisting a good dog are both bad ideas,” the sheriff’s office said.
