DUI Hit-And-Run Suspect Found Eating Watermelon In Stranger’s Kitchen

A suspected drunken driver in Colorado was found eating watermelon in a stranger’s home after allegedly fleeing a hit-and-run collision, officials said.

Lone Tree Police Department officers responded at around 10 a.m. on June 2 to a hit-and-run collision involving a wrong-way driver on Lincoln Avenue. Witnesses told officers the driver who struck another vehicle fled the scene.

Nearby, a homeowner discovered a stranger eating watermelon inside her home and called authorities. Officers arrived to find the trespasser was the hit-and-run suspect they were seeking.

Body-worn camera video shared by the City of Lone Tree Government on Facebook on Wednesday shows the suspect, whose identity was not immediately released, being arrested while standing in the stranger’s kitchen.

Officials said a preliminary breath test indicated a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.122, over the legal limit.

He now faces charges of felony trespassing, driving under the influence (DUI), careless driving, failure to report an accident, and leaving the scene of an accident.
